Chapter 41
This time I landed much more smoothly. Maybe I was finally getting the hang of this thing? Opening my eyes I saw I was in a forest. Eucalypt trees surrounded me, so I guessed I was still somewhere near home. Looking around, I couldn’t see anything to tell me where I was. There was no sign of a road or any houses.
“Dad,” I whispered as loudly as I dared.
Nothing. I crept slowly forward. There was a sudden rustling in the grass. I froze. Akhura came bounding out of the long grass tail wagging excitedly.
“Hey Akhura, where’s Wyn? Is Dad here?” I asked patting the excited dog.
Of course he didn’t answer. He did turn and go back the way he had come, glancing around to see if I was coming. I followed him through the underbrush, trying to make as little noise as possible. The clever pup led me straight to Dad. I threw myself at him and was immediately comforted by his firm arms enclosing me.
“You’re back already. Did you find Finnan? Is Halmer going to be alright?” Dad asked quietly.
“Yes and yes. Did you find out what happened to Wyn? Have they taken him back to Rothlyn?”
“No, he’s still here. I don’t think these Elves are with Rothlyn. It is hard to tell why they want Wyn, I can only hear some of what they’re saying. They seem to be arguing about what they should do next. If only we had Argus and Halmer here, we could consider trying to rescue Wyn,” Dad said still speaking softly.
“Have you seen Wyn? Is he alright? After what they did to Halmer I don’t trust them even if they aren’t with Rothlyn.”
“Yes, I have seen Wyn. They’ve tied him up, but he looks unharmed.”
“What do we do next?” I asked.
“I think it is best to continue to observe them. We don’t need to act until we know more of their plans. Perhaps then, you could travel back to Sanctuary and bring back some Elves to attempt a rescue.”
“Oh I forgot to tell you, I didn’t travel to Sanctuary. Finnan was in Emmelion City, I took Halmer straight there. Finnan thinks I may have a gift that allows me to travel directly to a person as well as to locations.”
“That’s wonderful Honey. That skill may prove invaluable in the coming fight.”
“You think it’s possible then?”
“I don’t see why not. You travelled straight to Finnan, who wasn’t where you expected to go and then you made it back here to me even though you didn’t know where I was. That seems pretty conclusive.”
“How long was I gone?”
“About six hours, the sun only came up about an hour ago.”
“What did you tell Olivia and the others? Are they all okay?” I asked, worried about my friends.
“I told them we found Halmer and that he was fine. I said it was all just a big misunderstanding, that Wyn knew those people from his old life in Melbourne. I tried to reassure them that it was all going to be fine and that you had taken Halmer home.
